Product Installation, Protection, and Maintenance:
Marine Deck Plank
STORING/HANDLING
Marine Deck Plank is made using asphalt which is a thermo plastic material. Product deformation can occur if the plank is not properly supported. Therefore, the plank should be neatly stacked before use. Any warped plank will recover its original shape if placed on a hard, level surface. The Minimum temperature for installation is 40 degrees F.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Marine Deck Plank will conform directly to the existing substrate, so the floor should be as smooth, clean, and dry as possible. All grease, paint, etc. must be removed. Deck Plank can not be successfully applied directly over wood treated with creosote because creosote is an active solvent of asphalt. Wood substrates subject to conditions which might cause buckling or rotting of the wood are not satisfactory. This refers particularly to wood floors that are below grade, on grade, or above grade without heat or ventilation underneath the floor. (Contact Elsro for detailed information on substrate surface preparation, including requirements for wood, steel, mastic, etc.)
PLANK APPLICATION
Elsro Cutback Adhesive is used to bond the plank directly to the substrate. Plank can be set in a wet cement, which will seal all cross and longitudinal joints when the plank is set tightly in place. Install the plank with long joints straight and break short joints in alternate rows. Each plank should be laid as close as possible to its final position and uniformly pressed, wedged, or jacked in place; then it should be pressed, rolled or weighted to secure solid bearing in the cement. Lay the plank no less than 15 minutes and not more than two hours after application of the cement.
